A peasant boy, who is timid and immature, comes to St. Petersburg to earn money. The plot of the film revolves mostly around his development as a person and the changing of his mindset. His personal becoming is written into a bigger story, the collapse of the Tsarist Russia.
The picture covers a period of history from 1913 to 1917. The film also contains a newsreel shooting of Petrograd in 1913.
