Faust is the final part of the film tetralogy about the course of history and people. According to the intention of the author Alexander Sokurov Faust is supposed to become the final part of the longtime work of Russian cinematographers in collaboration with colleagues from Japan, Germany, USA, Italy, France and UK.

The film is based on the fundamental cultural tradition connected with the work of Goethe. The authors of the film aimed to recreate on the screen the special atmosphere of life.

The plot is based on the first part of the poetic drama by Goethe, mostly describing the love story Faust – Margaret.
